ちょっと違うような気がする。英訳は以下の通り。
I should therefore not be, O God, yea I should have no being at all, unless thou wert in me: or rather, I should not be, unless I had my being in thee; of whom, and through whom, and to whom are all things.
和訳ではnisi esses in me（unless thou wert in me〔あなたが私の内に存在しないなら〕）とnisi essem in te（unless I had my being in thee〔私があなたの内に存在しないなら〕）という対が全く表現されていない。
それにしても、アウグスティヌスの文章は、やさしい言葉で繰り返しを多用しながら奏でる変奏曲のようである。
