　Nancy Gibbs という女性の編集長がとうとう勇退することになったそうである。

　翌週が休刊にならないパターンのダブル・イシュー。いつもより厚いのをいつも通り一週間で読まなくてはならないのだけど、結局ちょっと遅れてしまった。

　特集は女性第一号。
　自身も女性である編集長 Nancy Gibbs は言う。

‘She broke the glass ceiling.’ What a jagged image we use for women who achieve greatly, defining accomplishment in terms of the barrier rather than the triumph. (p.48)

　ガラスの天井というのは、女性の昇進や成功を阻む見えない障害のようなもので、それを突破すればガラスの天井を突き破ったと常套的に言われる。しかし、女性の功績を障害の観点からしか評価しないのは、奇妙なことである。

新約聖書 訳と註 第七巻 ヨハネの黙示録

　これで田川建三の個人訳新約聖書が完成した。特徴は神学的な解釈を入れ込まず、客観的に最も妥当と思われる訳を作ったこと（田川の個人的傾向の反映はあるだろうが）。語学的・文献学的な注釈が豊富であること（ほとんどこちらが本体である）。
　キリスト教的ではないと批判されるかもしれないが、現代においてはいかなるドグマも批判的文献学の洗礼をまず受けなくてはならない。護教的とは対極の立場であるということは、文献学にとっていささかもマイナスではない。

　ヨハネの黙示録に関して言うと、もう一つ重要な特徴があるようだ。ここには田川による新しい学説が開陳されているのだ。

今日我々が知っている黙示録は、二人の書き手の文章が混在している。元来の著者の作品と、そこに大量に自分の文章を書き込んだ編集者の文である。分量にしてほぼ半々。我々の訳文では〈　〉で囲んである。また一段落以上まるごと編集者の文である場合は、その段落を二字下げにしてある。この二人は、月とすっぽんほどにも似ていない。まったく正反対の方向を向いているだけでなく、立っている水準も巨大な落差があるし、著作の目的、主題、質も全然異なるし、人間の品性も雲泥の差があるし、そして特に、ギリシャ語の語学力が桁違いに異なる。我々はこの編集者を「編集者 S」と呼ぶことにした。普通名詞で「編集者」と呼ぶと、いろいろな水準での編集者がありうるから、この場合は固有名詞的な呼称を必要とするので、この人、後述のように極端に幼稚にサディスティックな人であるから、わかり易いようにこう呼ぶことにした。(p.859, 解説と後書き)
