　休日にタイムに専念しようとするのは逆効果のようだ。すぐに眠くなる。やるべきことをやってから取り掛かるのがよい。
　今一番迷っているのは、フランス語で何を読むのかということ。セレクション・リーダーズ・ダイジェストは日常的なフランス語を習得するのに一番よさそうである。ル・モンド・ディプロマティクはタイムとはまた違った視点から世界を眺めることを可能にしてくれそうである。いずれも捨てがたい。でもやっぱり文学を離れては、フランス語を学ぶ甲斐もないように思われる。
　可能かどうか分からないが、セレクションとディプロのいずれかとフランス文学をしばらく続けてみたい。

　いつもリスク・レポートを書いている Ian Bremmer が、中国の全体主義的な不気味さに言及しつつも下した結論。

The China striding into the spotlight is not guaranteed to win the future. In this fragmenting world, no one government will have the international influence required to continue to set the political and economic rules that govern the global system. But if you had to bet on one country that is best positioned today to extend its influence with partners and rivals alike, you wouldn’t be wise to back the U.S. The smart money would probably be on China. 　一方、Richard Haas という人は、習近平にもジレンマがあるのだ言って、こう結論する。

He may be tempted to turn to a more assertive foreign policy as an alternative way to demonstrate the party’s legitimacy and right to rule. But in so doing he could jeopardize the stability that has contributed so directly to China’s economic growth. The only thing that is certain is that the future of China is much less assured than commonly assumed. (ibid.)
