Time Asia [US] October 24 2016 (単号)

　Double issue。通常号の倍のボリュームである。しかし double issue の翌週が必ず休刊とは限らない。既に10月31日号が届いている。
　通読を義務としている身にとっては、ありがた迷惑というか…。まだほとんど読んでいなかったので、昨日は休みを利用して一日 TIME に掛りきっていた。読みがかなり雑になってしまったのは仕方ない。
　しかし、これが方針の転換を考える契機となった。

　職場でちまちま読むのではなく、休日に一気に読み切る。
　先ずは理解よりもスピードを重視する。
　読んでいる最中に辞書は使わない。
　旧版の『スーパーボキャビル』で語彙力を高める。
　現実的な目標としては、四時間半から五時間。本当は三時間としたいところだが、たぶん速読の領域に踏み込まなくてはならないだろう。

　大統領選挙特集。表紙には ”Total Meltdown.” と書かれている。もちろんトランプ氏のことである。8月22日号ではまだ融けかかけていただけだったのだが、今や完全に融け落ちた。
　バラク・オバマやヒラリー・クリントンも寄稿している。
　オバマは自分の任期を振り返る。

　クリントンはアメリカの特別な地位を強調し、そのアイデンティティーが排他的な方向に向かってはならないと考える。

The world looks to us stand up for human rights, LGBT rights, religious and ethnic minorities, women, people with disabilities and people everywhere who yearn for peace. We challenge ourselves and other nations to do better. It’s why so many people from around the world want to become Americans too.
